About the area
Upper arms: what the area covers and who it suits
By upper arms we mean the arm from the shoulder joint to the elbow. The forearm is priced separately, and together they are booked as full arms.
The hair here is usually finer and lighter than on the forearm, but it shows in sunlight and in photos: in a vest, a sleeveless dress, on the beach. Shaving an upper arm is awkward, and waxing that much surface is expensive for the few weeks it buys.
The laser settles it without shaving: the hair grows back sparser and finer. On the upper arms, though, it is often light, and then results come more slowly than usual. We look at your hair at the consultation and tell you what to expect before the course starts.

How many
How many laser hair removal sessions do you need?
Expect 6 to 10 sessions, though the range is wider here than for most areas. It comes down to hair colour: the lighter it is, the less pigment there is, and the weaker the response to the laser.
If the hair on your upper arms is dark, the area keeps pace with the forearms. If it is light, it will take longer, and we will say so at the start rather than after the third session.

The session
How the session works
The first step is a free consultation. We check your skin, ask about your health and any contraindications, and do a test flash to set a power level that's comfortable for you.
The session itself uses a hybrid laser (alexandrite, diode and neodymium) with contact cooling, which takes the edge off most of the sensation even in delicate areas. The time depends on the area: small zones take around 15 minutes, large ones up to an hour. Your first visit takes a little longer, as it includes the consultation and test flash.
Preparation
How to prepare for your session
You do not need to shave your upper arms before the visit: the specialist looks at them on the spot and decides whether the hair needs trimming. Wax, sugaring and epilators, though, are out 3 to 4 weeks beforehand: the root has to stay in place.
Two weeks without sun or tanning beds before the visit. Upper arms are exposed more often than people think, so this rule applies here almost as strictly as for legs.
The details are in the preparation article, button below.

Aftercare
What to do after the session
For a few hours the skin will be warm and slightly red. Skip the sauna, the pool and any training where a backpack strap or a bar presses on the arm for the first two days.
Keep the area out of the sun for two weeks and use SPF: upper arms burn faster than many spots, and freshly treated skin is more sun-sensitive.
The hairs start coming out after a few days. They shed on their own and need no help.

Your schedule
When to book the next session
We almost always run the upper arms alongside the forearms, even if you only booked the upper part: it makes it easier to see where the hair responds faster.
The gap is usually 6 weeks or more. Hair here grows back slower than on legs, and there is nothing to gain by rushing.

Common questions about the upper arms
What exactly does the area cover?+
The arm from the shoulder joint to the elbow, all the way round. The forearm is not included; it is priced separately.
Better to book the upper arms alone or full arms?+
If you are planning the forearms too, take full arms: 2600 Kc against 2800 Kc separately. If you only want the upper arms, take those.
What if the hair on my upper arms is light?+
Then the laser works less well, and on very light or grey hair it does nothing at all. We will look at the consultation and tell you whether to start.
Does it hurt?+
Upper arms are easy: firm skin, fine hair. It usually feels like warm flicks, and contact cooling takes away nearly all of it.
