Laser Hair Removal: Back of the Neck
The patch below the nape, under the hairline.

About the area
Back of the neck: what the area covers and who it suits
This is the patch below the nape, between the hairline and the shoulders. The front of the neck is priced separately: different price, different hair.
You cannot see the back of your own neck; other people can, and usually it is a hairdresser or someone close who mentions it. Single dark hairs or soft fuzz often grow here, running below the line of the cut and making it look untidy.
Shaving the area blind is awkward, and a razor leaves the hair coarser and more visible. The laser works on the root, and the line at the back stays clean without regular shaving.

How many
How many laser hair removal sessions do you need?
Expect 6 to 10 sessions. The hair here is usually dark, so the laser works on it well.
One thing to be clear about: we treat the neck, not the hairline itself. The shape of a haircut is not something a laser should adjust; that is a hairdresser's work.

The session
How the session works
The first step is a free consultation. We check your skin, ask about your health and any contraindications, and do a test flash to set a power level that's comfortable for you.
The session itself uses a hybrid laser (alexandrite, diode and neodymium) with contact cooling, which takes the edge off most of the sensation even in delicate areas. The time depends on the area: small zones take around 15 minutes, large ones up to an hour. Your first visit takes a little longer, as it includes the consultation and test flash.
Preparation
How to prepare for your session
You do not need to shave this area, or to ask anyone for help: the specialist looks at it herself and decides whether the hair needs trimming. Working blind, it is easy to miss a patch or take off more than intended.
We will pin your hair up during the session, so there is no need to get it cut or styled beforehand. Two weeks without tanning: the back of the neck is exposed for anyone who wears a ponytail or short hair.
The details are in the preparation article.

Aftercare
What to do after the session
Redness does not last long here. Keep styling products off the area for a day: they reach the neck more often than people realise.
No polo necks or scarves for two days, they rub. SPF for two weeks if you wear your hair up.
The hairs come out on their own within a few days.

Your schedule
When to book the next session
The back of the neck grows back without you noticing, so we keep track of the schedule and get in touch when it is due.
The gap is usually 4-5 weeks or more. It is convenient to combine with the back or the upper arms if you are having those too.

Common questions about the back of the neck
Will you tidy up my hairline?+
No. We remove the hair below the line of your cut, but we do not touch the shape itself: that is a hairdresser's job, and the laser removes hair for a long time, which is not something you can undo later.
How is it different from the front of the neck?+
The back runs from below the nape to the shoulders. The front runs from under the chin to the collarbones. They are priced separately, but both can be done in one visit.
Does it hurt?+
The skin is firmer here than at the front, so it is easy to take. The area is small: a few flashes.
How many sessions will I need?+
Usually 6 to 10. The hair here is often dark, so the area responds predictably.
