About the area
Knees: what the area covers and who it suits
The knees means the area around the kneecap. It is rarely booked on its own: most people add it to the lower legs or to full legs so no untreated strip is left in the middle of the leg.
The hair here is usually sparse, but the skin is awkward: uneven over the kneecap and folding as you bend. That is exactly why knees are where people nick themselves with a razor, and why the irritation left behind then rubs against jeans.
The contours do not bother the laser - we treat this area the same as flat skin. It is small, so in both time and price it is an add-on to a visit rather than a trip of its own.

How many
How many laser hair removal sessions do you need?
Expect 6 to 10 sessions, the same as the rest of the leg. Done together with the lower legs, the knees run on the same rhythm and need no separate schedule.
Counting sessions for the knees separately makes little sense: they run inside the legs course and finish with it.

The session
How the session works
The first step is a free consultation. We check your skin, ask about your health and any contraindications, and do a test flash to set a power level that's comfortable for you.
The session itself uses a hybrid laser (alexandrite, diode and neodymium) with contact cooling, which takes the edge off most of the sensation even in delicate areas. The time depends on the area: small zones take around 15 minutes, large ones up to an hour. Your first visit takes a little longer, as it includes the consultation and test flash.
Preparation
How to prepare for your session
Shave the area the day before or on the day of your visit - not with wax or an epilator: the root has to stay in place.
Avoid sun and tanning beds for two weeks beforehand. Come with clean skin, without creams or oils.
Details are in the general preparation article: knees have no special rules of their own.

Aftercare
What to do after the session
For a few hours the skin may feel warm and look red - normal, and it settles within a day.
Skip the sauna, the pool and sport for the first few days: the knee bends constantly, and freshly treated skin does not need the friction. Put scrubs and strong sun aside for 1 to 2 weeks.
The hairs come out on their own within a few days. There are not many on the knee, so it passes unnoticed.

Your schedule
When to book the next session
Knees usually go in the same visit as the legs, so there is nothing separate to watch: we keep one schedule.
The next session is usually 4-5 weeks or more later. If the knees go together with the lower legs, there is nothing separate to remember.

Common questions about the knees
Can I book the knees alone?+
You can, but a separate visit for one small area rarely makes sense. Knees are usually added to the lower legs or full legs at the same appointment.
Does it hurt?+
Over the kneecap the bone sits close to the skin, so it is sharper than on the shin. The area is tiny though: a few flashes and it is done.
How many sessions will I need?+
Usually 6 to 10, on the same rhythm as the rest of the leg.
How long does it take?+
15 to 30 minutes including preparation, and if we are doing your legs anyway, it fits into the same visit.
