Laser removes back hair for the long term: you need a course of 6-10 sessions, then maintenance once or twice a year. Men's laser hair removal solves the main problem with the back: shaving it yourself is close to impossible, and after shaving, T-shirts and backpacks rub the skin.
Shaving, waxing, cream or laser
Shaving and cream last a few days, waxing and sugaring a few weeks, and then the hair grows back. Laser removes hair for the long term, so you shave your back less and less. Ingrown hairs are more likely where you shave, and the back is one of those places; waxing can lead to them too.
| Method | How long it lasts | Downside on the back |
|---|---|---|
| Shaving | a few days | you can't reach it yourself; irritation and ingrown hairs afterwards |
| Waxing and sugaring | a few weeks | painful, hair has to grow out first, ingrown hairs happen here too |
| Hair removal cream | a few days | a large area that's hard to cover evenly on your own |
| Laser | long term, after the course | needs a course of 6-10 sessions and maintenance once or twice a year |

Who back laser hair removal suits
If the hair on your back bothers you and you're tired of constant shaving or waxing, laser hair removal for men in Prague will help you get rid of it for the long term! It's especially worth it if shaving leaves your back with irritation and ingrown hairs.
Laser helps if your hair is dark and you have no contraindications. It works best on thick, dark hair and light skin; on blonde, red and grey hair the result is weaker, as such hair has little of the pigment the laser heats. We don't treat during active cancer or epilepsy triggered by light, and we postpone if your back has a tan with redness, inflammation or a cold sore, or if you're taking isotretinoin or medication that makes skin sensitive to light. The specialist checks all of this at the free consultation.

Why one session isn't enough
The laser only affects hair in the growth phase, and at any moment only part of the hair is in that phase. That's why you need a course: the back takes 6-10 sessions on average, and where you land in that range depends on how thick your hair is. More in How many laser hair removal sessions do men need?
How to prepare your back
Shave your back the day before, with a razor or a clipper set to zero. You can't reach the middle of your back yourself, so you usually ask someone close to you.
Skip waxing, sugaring and epilators for 3-4 weeks before the session, and strong sun and tanning beds for two weeks. If your tan is fresh and the skin is still red, we reschedule; a light tan without redness is fine, and we set the power to suit it. On the day, have no cream or oil on your back. The full list is in How men should prepare for laser hair removal.
How the session goes
Come to the session prepared: your back shaved the day before, with no tan with redness and no skin irritation. The session takes place in a separate treatment room, with single-use materials and protective equipment, including special glasses to protect your eyes.
Before the session the specialist examines your skin and hair, asks about your health and any medication, sets the power and cleans the skin with chlorhexidine. Your back is treated while you lie on your stomach, and the whole area takes 45-60 minutes. It all goes calmly; at most you'll feel a light tingling, and our laser has contact cooling. While the session is on, you can have a chat with the specialist, and the time goes by faster.
If you have moles, the specialist covers them with a white pencil or a wipe and works around them; we cover tattoos with a wipe too, leaving a 1-1.5 cm margin. More in Laser hair removal and moles for men.
After the session the specialist applies panthenol to the area, explains how to look after your skin and gives you an approximate date for the next visit.

What to do after the session
Redness and slight swelling around the hairs are a normal reaction, and a cold compress helps if needed. For the first 1-2 days, we ask you to skip the gym, sauna, pool and hot baths, and put the backpack and tight T-shirts aside too. Protect your back from the sun for two weeks. When to come for the next session
The first three sessions are 4-5 weeks apart, then the interval grows as hair growth slows down. When the date gets close, we'll message you and offer a time. More in How often should men get laser hair removal?
What results to expect
With every session there's less hair on your back, and what grows back after the course is usually thinner and lighter. Hormonal imbalance and some medications, such as anabolic steroids, can trigger new growth. That's why maintenance follows the course: usually 1-2 sessions a year.
Occasionally the hair on some patch gets thicker after laser; this is called paradoxical hypertrichosis. It's more common in skin type III (white skin that tans after an initial burn). If you notice it, tell the specialist at your next visit.
